This book is absolutely wonderful reading. In the 50's and 60's life was much simpler and raising children was a bit easier as well. However with one parent home during the week and the other traveling to make a living for his family, I'm sure Mrs. Flaherty had her hands full. Life could have been much different as Mom might have let us slide on little things. However she stuck to her guns and she layed down the law even for minor infractions. This turned out to be good training later on in life.Most people who buy the book have no idea who Doris Flaherty is or who the Flaherty's are from Illinois, but I am proud to say that htis book was written about my Mom. She is and always will be the Greatest Mom of all because of her beliefs she instilled in her children.
